October 7, 2010 at 8:51pm

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – Oct. 7, 2010) – At ratification meetings held over the last few days across the province, the vast majority of the 30,000 UFCW members working at Loblaw-owned stores ratified their respective negotiated settlements.

Approximately 1,700 workers in the Essex-Kent-Lambton area working at Zehrs Great Canadian Food Stores (GCFS) and Real Canadian Superstores (RCSS) voted to take strike action.

Workers are scheduled to begin strike action at 12:01 a.m. October 8, 2010. The Union and company currently have no dates scheduled for further negotiations.
Among each of the Local unions involved in this set of negotiations, each bargaining unit was legally responsible for voting on their own collective agreement. The majority of workers – those at Fortinos and Loblaws stores as well as all involved members from Local 1000A and Local 1977 – ratified their respective contracts and will continue work as normal. The Locals 175 & 633 bargaining units that voted to reject the negotiated settlement for the Zehrs GCFS and RCSS contracts are in a position of legal strike action.
