Stewards raise more than $11k at annual seminar
Almost 200 stewards attended the annual Toronto Stewards Seminar held on October 1 & 2, 2011. Over the two days, attendees took part in courses covering stewards training, health & safety, preparing for arbitration, bullying & harassment, politics, collective bargaining and work reintegration.
“This weekend is always educational but it also allows the stewards to meet each other – especially our newest stewards – and know that there are others out there who share similar concerns, experiences and challenges in their role as Steward,” explains Local 175 President Shawn Haggerty. “It’s great to see people reconnecting and even greater to see them welcoming newcomers with open arms.”
During Saturdays events, stewards purchased raffle tickets and bid on silent auction items to win great prizes and raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. The top prize this year was a 16gb iPad 2. Through ticket sales, the stewards raised an amazing $11,403 for a great cause.
Thanks to everyone for making the weekend such a great success! See you next year.
