On November 4 & 5, almost 200 Stewards from Region 3 gathered for their annual seminar in Kingston. Stewards participated in classes that provided training in a variety of topics including health & safety, arbitration, bullying and harassment, and political action.
“I look forward to this weekend each year,” explains Regional Director Dan Lacroix. “It gives us a chance to reconnect with our stewards outside of the workplace. It’s more than just classes and instruction… the stewards get to catch up with each other, talk about the challenges they face and share their ideas for solutions.”

nov08:11-2Presentations were made by President Haggerty and Dan Lacroix as well as guest speaker Ryan Dyck from Egale Canada – a national Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) human rights organization. Ryan spoke to the Stewards about bullying and ensuring that they provide a safe space for all members to discuss the issues they face at work. Ryan will also present at the Niagara Falls and Barrie conferences this coming weekend.

After their first day of classes, Stewards were able to unwind at dinner as well as participate in several raffles and a silent auction – with all proceeds going toward Leukemia research. Stewards can be proud to know they raised $16,200 by the end of the seminar!
