Two Compass Group locations ratify
Members working at Compass Group Extendicare locations in Mississauga and Lakeside/Brampton secured their new three-year collective agreement at ratification votes on December 28 and 29, 2011. Members will benefit from the following improvements:
Wages increase 35 cents per hour at date of ratification for all wage classifications and again by 35 cents in the second year of the agreement. In the final year of the contract, wages increase 40 cents per hour for all members. As a result of moving workers from a wage progression of hours worked to years of service in the new agreement, the members will receive wage increases from 3 to 10 percent, during the life of the contract, in addition to the increases in the wage grid.
Workers with one year of service will receive two weeks vacation at 4%, those with five years are entitled to three weeks at 6% and members with 10 years of service receive four weeks vacation paid out at 8%. The employer also agrees to pay out outstanding accrued vacation at the end of each fiscal year.
Upon ratification, members benefit from the merger of the part-time employees into the full-time agreement.
The sunset clause has been reduced from 24 months to 18 months so that discipline is removed from a workers’ file sooner.
