Update on negotiations for Metro members
February 13, 2012 at 5:38pm
After two days of meeting with the Ministry Of Labour appointed Conciliation Officer, your Metro Negotiating Committee made the unanimous decision to request a strike vote from the workers at Metro stores across the province.A strike vote is a sign of solidarity and it puts us in a legal position to strike should it become necessary. A strong strike mandate means that your committee can go back to the negotiating table with the clear message that should negotiations fail to make any further progress, the members are ready to strike. Should that occur, your committee and Local Union will then set a strike deadline.
Strike vote meetings will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at locations and times to be determined in the next few days. All meeting schedules will be posted to the Grocery Workers United website and faxed to each store for posting as soon as details are finalized.
Your negotiating committee thanks all the members at Metro for their ongoing support. Together we will achieve a fair contract.
Your negotiating committee and the company will meet again with the Conciliation Officer on March 6 & 7, 2012.
