Stats show injured workers shouldering brunt of cuts at WSIB

  • From 2009 to 2010, the rate of denial for new claims at the WSIB rose from 7.9% to 11.3%
  • By September 2011, the cost of benefits paid to injured workers had fallen by $631 million over the previous year.
  • The length of time allowed for vocational rehabilitation plans has been cut by 74% over 2010.
  • In 2011 there was a reduction of 31.3% in the number of permanent impairment awards.

In 2011, the average benefit paid to an injured, unemployed and permanently disabled worker is $15,106 per year compared to an average of $21,144 in 2010.
