New Food Classics files for bankruptcy
On Tuesday, February 21, 2012 New Food Classics in St. Catharines shut its doors to all its workers. The poultry plant, formally Pinty’s, has officially filed for bankruptcy. A receiver has been appointed to protect the retail property and manage outstanding debt including members’ accrued vacation time and payment for all hours worked. The receiver will also inform us of proper notice pay and severance for all members. Your Union has called a meeting for all members working at New Food Classics on Friday, March 9, at 10 a.m. The details are listed below.
We encourage all members to attend as we will discuss the current situation in its entirety as well as answer any questions you may have. A representative from the UFCW National office will be there to explain how the New Food Classics Action Centre will work. Please call our Hamilton office to ensure we have your correct contact information so we can correspond with you directly in the future. Your Union is working very hard to keep you informed at every stage of this process. We are deeply saddened by this situation but will continue to diligently fight for you.
