Three-year deal ratified by Sterling Place workers

A new three-year collective agreement has been ratified by health care providers at the Sterling Place nursing care facility in Ottawa. The 30 members of the bargaining unit secured the following improvements at the May 2 meeting.
Wages improve across the board by between 2 and 3 per cent in each year of the contract with the first increase retroactive to October 2011.
Layoff language has been adjusted to apply to those full-time workers whose hours have been reduced by more than 10 hours bi-weekly. Additionally, important language regarding dignity and respect in the workplace has been added as a letter of agreement.
