On a beautiful sunny and hot July 6th, 2012 members from Local 175 hosted a charity BBQ outside of the Pharma Plus store in Bracebridge and raised $230 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. Union Steward Jennifer Slavin and member Christine Stead from Bracebridge Villa were the driving force behind this year’s event.

Jennifer’s son Daniel was a big help going up and down the side walk encouraging drivers to stop in for a bite while Jennifer did the cooking and Christine did the selling. Jennifer even cooked up a batch of homemade cookies to go along with the hotdogs and pop. Union Rep Dave White stayed very close to the cookies to keep an eye on them of course… and because they were so good.

President Shawn Haggerty and family stopped in to support the cause as well. “Every single dollar we raise through great events like this goes to such a good cause,” said President Haggerty. “It’s great to see our members getting involved and spearheading fundraising initiatives.”

Three dollars got you a pop, a hotdog and a wonderful homemade cookie. For $2 more, you got a chance to win a prize too.

Thanks to those that came out to support the BBQ, and special thanks to our volunteers as well as the sponsors: Pharma Plus for hosting and supporting the event, and donating gift certificates, pop, water and ice; and Food Basics #610 for donating food and condiments.
