Hockey players score $26,500 for the LLS
Once again this year, the Local Union’s annual hockey tournament raised an astounding amount of money to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Canada. The roster was full once again this year and teams battled on the ice over the two-day tournament to see who would become champions. [view photos]
“This tournament always makes for a great weekend,” said President Shawn Haggerty, who was on hand for the trophy presentation on Saturday, May 11. “The money raised in these two days goes a long way to helping the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society do vital work on finding a cure for blood cancers. It’s a great weekend raising money for a great cause.”
The team from Fearman’s Pork defended their title and were crowned tournament champions for the third year in a row. A close second place went to the team from Zehrs Malden Road. Union Rep Matt Davenport, who does a lot of work to organize the tournament each year, and President Haggerty handed out trophies for: Best Goalie – Steve Jankus from the Fearman’s team; and Most Goals – Al Reston from Fearman’s.
Thank you to all of our participants and sponsors – many of whom return year after year to this tournament – for your generosity and continued support.[photos]
