Workers at Veterinary Emergency Clinics vote to join the union

August 14, 2014 at 3:00pm

On August 7, 2014, more than 100 part-time and full-time workers at Veterinary Emergency Clinics (VEC) voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining our Local Union. The successful certification vote makes this only the second group of animal hospital workers to unionize in Ontario. The new members work as Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) and Animal Care Attendants (ACAs) at two Toronto VEC locations.

The VEC workers were strongly united to achieve better wages, be treated with respect, and have the opportunity to voice their concerns and have management take those concerns under consideration.

“Belonging to Local 175 is a good fit for these workers,” explained President Haggerty. “Deciding to join the Union will improve their working conditions and we look forward to working with them to achieve that.”
