Members at Food Basics locations throughout the province met at meetings held Sunday, April 27, 2008, to vote on whether to take strike action if further negotiations with the company fail to provide an adequate settlement. The result was 95 per cent in favour of strike action should it become necessary.

More than 6,500 workers will be in a legal strike position on May 26 at 12:01 a.m.

The company has yet to table any wage increases and in the meantime has rejected any increases to the pension plan or dental plan.

Two more negotiation meetings are scheduled between the union and the company for May 22 and 23.
