February 28th is RSI Awareness Day
This year marks the 18th annual RSI Awareness Day.
Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs) describe a collection of painful disorders involving damage to muscles, tendons and nerves caused by overuse or misuse. These injuries are among the most common types of workplace injuries.
In fact, RSIs or MSDs (Musculoskeletal Disorders) account for 42% of all lost time claims and 50% of all lost time days*. This is the single largest class of compensation claims in the province and many are not even reported. Its equally disturbing and encouraging to know that these injuries are avoidable.
To help create awareness of these startling statistics, organizations in communities across the province and internationally have proclaimed the last day of February as International RSI Awareness Day. The goal is to build awareness and to take action on the impact these injuries have on workers, their families and the communities they live and work in.
Because WORK SHOULDN’T HURT!
