For more than 15 years, Locals 175 & 633 have provided more training & education opportunities for our members and their families than any other Local Union. Over the years, we have offered basic and advanced computers, English as a Second Language, and high school courses. We continue to offer CPR and First Aid training, and Computers (by request; where enough interest can be demonstrated). We also offer Weeklong paid training for Members, Stewards and Health & Safety committee members. In addition, Stewards training is offered annually.
Each spring we take applications for the Solidarity Scholarships. Members and their children who are attending post-secondary schools are eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship.
Eighty-eight (88) winners are drawn from the applications. That means, that every year, $88,000 is put back into the pockets of our members and their children because we believe in the value of education for our future generations. The application form is available April 1st to August 1st each year and the only criteria to enter is that you must be an active member in good standing with the Local Union. No test, or essay, just enter online and your name goes into the draw.
Visit our Scholarships & Awards page for more information and details on other scholarships available to members of UFCW Locals 175 & 633. The deadline for applying for the Local Union’s Solidarity Scholarship is August 1.
Applications are closed for 2016.
Thank you to all applicants. The 2016 winners’ list available here.
Weeklong Paid Training
Are you eager to learn? Your Local Union holds three types of Weeklong Paid Training courses. These programs are designed to help members, stewards and health & safety committee members learn more about worker rights and the role of the Union. The training takes place at the Training & Education Centre in Mississauga. Only those selected to participate will be notified.
Applications for the Fall 2016 Weeklong Paid Training sessions are now closed. Only successful applicants will be notified about four weeks before the course start date.
