Avon Sportswear workers approve new deal

On March 2, 2012, the 16 members of the bargaining unit at Avon Sportswear in Concord secured a new three-year collective agreement.
Workers receive a lump sum payment of $250 and an hourly increase for all classifications of 20 cents in the first year of the contract. In the second year, all classifications receive an increase of 25 cents per hour and in the third year the increase is 30 cents per hour.
Employer contributions to the workers benefit plan increase to a rate of $1.19 per hour in the first year, $1.28 per hour in the second year and $1.37 per hour in the third year of the contract term. The company also agrees to contribute $250 per year toward the UFCW Locals 175 & 633 Training & Education Fund.
Workers with 20 years of service or more with the employer receive five weeks vacation paid at 10 per cent. Bereavement leave entitlement improves to provide five days paid leave for the death of a spouse, child or parent and three days paid leave for in-law parent, siblings, grandchildren and grandparents.
