Health care workers at Almonte Country Haven secured a new collective agreement at an August 9th ratification vote.
The 75 members of the Health, Office & Professional Employees (HOPE) sector of the Local Union working at the nursing home achieved a 28-month contract, which is retroactive to the end of the previous agreement.
Effective the first pay after ratification, workers receive a general wage increase of 1%. In addition, workers receive a 2% increase on regular wage rates paid retroactively for hours worked between the end of the previous contract term and March 1, 2012. For hours worked since March 1, 2012 up to ratification, workers receive retroactive pay equal to an increase of 1.5% on regular rates.
Company contributions toward the UFCW Benefit Trust Fund, which provides health and welfare coverage for workers, increase to 8.5% of the gross insured monthly earnings of eligible employees.
Improved vacation language permits full-time workers who regularly work 67.5 hours bi-weekly and who are entitled to a minimum of four weeks’ vacation per year, will have the option to take one week of vacation in the form of individual days.
