Peterborough members at Minute Maid ratify a new collective agreement
On September 19, 2021 the 100 members at Minute Maid in Peterborough ratified a new four-year deal. Wage increases are: year 1 – $0.80, year 2 – $0.35, year 3 – $0.45, year 4 – $0.60. The shift premium for afternoon and night shifts increased from $1.00 to $1.10 and lead hand from $0.75 to $1.00.
Benefit improvements include an increase in the physio allowance from $500 to $1000, psychology services increased from $500 to $1500. The co-pay will be frozen for the first 2 years of the contract. Life insurance increased from $40,000 to $70,000 and the LTD cap increased from $2000 to $4000. Parental leave was added to the Maternity leave language and the top up will apply. A new core plan was introduced with the option to have no benefits for those who want to reduce or drop their benefits. Members will now have the convenience of a drug card.
Other monetary improvements include that the maintenance department will receive $80.00 towards their annual fees for their cert/license/ticket and the maintenance tool allowance will increase from $300 to $325. The boot allowance increases from $180 to $200. Temp stat pay is now included when calculating overtime.
Language improvements include a steward to be present when discipline is being given, time limits on discipline, no contracting out language, improved scheduling for continental shifts, float day to be taken when individuals choose and will no longer be scheduled by the employer. Pandemic language was added to provide that the employer will meet with the JHSC and Union regularly to discuss.
The employer rewards points program “celebrating you” will now credit members with their temp time which will increase their entitlement. Seniority language was also changed to include temp time. The requirement of having to work consecutively in order to pass probation was removed.
