International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia was founded in 2004. The day was established to create awareness to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender, intersex people and all other people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics. May 17th was specifically chosen as it commemorates the date in 1990 when the World Health Organization’s declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder.
